Retarder helps to prolong the thickening time of cement slurry, allowing for a longer pumpling time, which is crucial for a successful cementing operation.
This product is suitable for use in systems operating at low to moderate temperatures, up to 90℃ (194℉, BHCT).
It can be mixed with water and doesn’t require specific water quality.
If the curing temperature is lower than the bottom hole circulating temperature, the strength of the set cement at the top may be affected.
When the temperature exceeds 95°C, the dosage of CH210L should be increased, as the strength of the set cement at the top may be compromised.
Technical Overview
CH210L functions by delaying the hydration process of cement particles. This extension of the "thickening time" is vital for ensuring that the slurry remains pumpable throughout the duration of the displacement process, preventing premature setting inside the casing or drill pipe.
Retarder helps extend the thickening time of cement slurry in order to keep it pumpable, which, therefore, ensures sufficient pumping time for a safe cementing project.
Operational Constraints & Cautions
1. Temperature Sensitivity
Optimal Range: Best used below 90°C (194°F) Bottom Hole Circulating Temperature (BHCT).
The 95°C Threshold: If used above 95°C, the required dosage increases exponentially. This can lead to excessive retardation.
2. Compressive Strength Risks
Top-of-Cement (TOC) Issues: If the curing temperature at the top of the cement column is significantly lower than the BHCT at the bottom, the cement at the top may stay liquid or "green" for an extended period.
Over-retardation: Excessive dosage at higher temperatures can severely impede the development of compressive strength, potentially leading to a "Wait on Cement" (WOC) time that is uneconomically long.
3. Mixing Requirements
Water Quality: One of the primary advantages of CH210L is that it is not sensitive to water quality, making it ideal for remote locations where treated water may not be available.
